As we told you last month, legendary post-punk group Television are coming to Marathon Music Works [UPDATE: the show has been moved to Exit/In] on March 31. Since our announcement, local synthpop darling Tristen has joined the bill as well, for a solo set, and helps make this an even more unmissable performance. Undoubtedly ahead of their time, Television never achieved the mainstream success or lasting legacy of peers such as Talking Heads, the Ramones, or Blondie, though they emerged from the same scene at the same time, and arguably had just as much of an impact. Their run was short and first reunion even shorter, however, in recent years, Television have become more active, reaffirming their legacy and emerging as one of the last great touring acts of their era. Whether you’re a longtime fan, casual listener, or total newcomer, Television stand as one of the most important bands in rock and roll history, and warrant your attention; whether you know it or not, they’ve influenced a ton of your favorites. We implore you to buy a ticket for this one, and we’re so excited about it that we’re also giving you a chance to win a pair. Keep reading for more about the lineup, and details on how to enter.
TELEVISION
The immense impact New York’s Television had on post-punk, new wave, and indie rock is immeasurable, and with only two albums (a third came later, after a break and subsequent reunion) under their belt, their legacy is all the more impressive, and one very few peers can claim. Though their current incarnation is short original guitarist Richard Lloyd (who departed in ’07), they’re more active than they’ve been in decades, celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2013 with a healthy amount of touring.
TRISTEN
We’ve written about Tristen at length, and we still can’t get enough of her latest full-length, C A V E S. Though she’s a bit poppier than Television, her musical sensibilities and diverse range make her a fitting opener, and the fact that she’s playing solo makes this set all the more intriguing. As if you needed another reason to attend, you’d better make a point to arrive early to witness the wonder that is Tristen.
