San Francisco indie rockers The Dodos aren’t just another two-man band (in fact, their existence pre-dates a majority of the current groups to have hopped on that bandwagon). With folky tendencies, unorthodox instrumentation, a compelling and energetic live show, and an amazing back catalogue (including their latest, Carrier), the duo should be a priority whenever they pass through Music City- which isn’t all that often. Paired with psyched-out art rocker Dustin Wong, this bill is unbeatable. Find out more about both acts after the jump!
THE DODOS
On their brand new Polyvinyl Records release, Carrier, The Dodos channel a more confident, straightforward, and fully-realized sound than they have a in a number of years. Pairing bright, dense instrumentation with themes of loss and aloneness, the group allow themselves to indulge in some of their poppier tendencies, while showing off more refinement in their songwriting chops than ever before. We can’t wait to see how this material translates in a live setting.
DUSTIN WONG
Employing abstract concepts, true orchestration, unconventional songwriting techniques, and socially conscious themes, art-rock/psychedelic/experimental rocker Dustin Wong is a true multimedia artist, and a brilliant musician. His latest album, Mediation of Ecstatic Energy, is his strongest yet, and the conclusion to a compelling trilogy. Beyond his unparalleled artistry, Wong is a gifted and hypnotic performer to boot.
The Dodos and Dustin Wong will perform TONIGHT at The Stone Fox. The show is 18+, begins at at 9 p.m. (doors at 8:30 p.m.), and tickets are available for $14.
