Want to check out a show this Friday but aren’t too into the whole Americana thing going on right now? Well, we’ve got just the concert for you: a sweaty, upbeat, distortion heavy electronica show . While the rest of Nashville lines up to see some random folk artist, the real party will be going down at Exit/In when Oregon natives STRFKR takes the stage. Joined by fellow fuzzy dance acts Chrome Sparks and Feelings, the show is only $15 ($18 at the door) and is open to all ages. Feelings goes on at around 9 and STRFKR is reported to start their set around 10.
STRFKR
If number of shows played in the last year is any indication of a band’s popularity, STRFKR is one hell of a band. Somehow the group managed to find time during their nearly 100 tour dates in the last year to record their third album, Miracle Mile, which hit shelves last February. If you haven’t had the pleasure of becoming familiar with STRFKR, the basic gist of their band is catchy electronic tunes infused with rock sensibilities and a sense of fun and playfulness. Their shows, which typically sell out (though this one hasn’t yet!), invariably end with masses of sweaty strangers jumping uncomfortably close to each and just generally having a blast under the neon glow of some really tripped out set pieces. Don’t be surprised if this ends up being one of our favorite shows of the year.
CHROME SPARKS
Chrome Sparks is one of those rare acts that manages to create atmospheric and occasionally minimalistic music that still has enough substance to pique the interests of listeners. Perhaps the best word to describe Chrome Sparks is smooth; the electronic soundscapes created by his hand are expansive, silky, and adventurous. His latest release, Sparks EP, is available for free through his Bandcamp, though obviously the best way to get a since of this stellar artist’s work is simply to come out and see him.
FEELINGS
When even the first opener has as strong of a stage presence and vibe as Feelings, you know it’s going to be a good show. Playing what some might snickeringly classify as chillwave, this stellar act has managed to wow audience members of all vocations. Feelings has released a string of singles and an EP No More Good Guys. Be sure to get there early enough to check out this act.
STRFKR, Chrome Sparks, and Feelings will perform September 20th at Exit/In. The show is all ages, begins at at 9 (doors at 8), and tickets are available for $15.
