FILLIGAR
Hailing from Chicago, indie rockers Filligar are made up of three brothers and a childhood friend. They’ve been playing together for over a decade, and it shows. Blending alt rock and retro influences into a balanced, poppy, indie rock sound, the group have amassed endless praise from critics and fans alike over the past few years. Their latest album, Hexagon, is perhaps their best yet, and proof that they’ve properly earned their opportunities to perform alongside bands such as The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, and Alabama Shakes- and can hold their own against them.
MIKAELA DAVIS
Mikaela Davis is an indie harpist. Yep, harpist. If that description has you thinking Sufjan Stevens school of off-kilter indie orchestral instrumentation, you’d be right on the money. Davis has impeccable knack for crafting dense, layered, haunting, and dreamy indie pop textures, balancing her singer-songwriter presentation with her technical harp flourishes in a way that makes the harp seem absolutely essential, and refreshingly unique.
MAINLAND
There’s been a lot of underground buzz surrounding indie rockers Mainland lately. One listen and you’ll see why- one part Strokes, one part Smith Westerns, and a whole lot of indie garage rock attitude with poppy sensibilities, the New York quartet seem poised to be the next big breakout of the city’s scene. Keep an eye on these guys!
