If you haven’t checked out The Nashville Scene’s cover story on Nashville’s unbreakable Will Hoge, go ahead and click through above. I’ll wait for you, because once you read it, I know you’ll be back to check out details on his show tonight.
Now that we’re all caught up…
Confession: I have been a big time Will Hoge fan for over a decade. It started when I was a teenager and I used to travel to Memphis (with boyfriend and best friend in tow) for extra opportunities to see him do his thing. I have an autographed copy of During The Before And After from a Bonnaroo appearance 6 or 7 years ago that I proudly display among my other music memorabilia as a remembrance of truly special night in Manchester.
When I was younger, I was awe-struck by the reality that such a general all-around rockstar was living in my city and shopping at my neighborhood Kroger. As an adult, I’m astounded by his resilience, his determination, his wisdom and grace, and his all-around humility. He’s a total pro and we’re all lucky to call him a hometown boy.
He’s recently had some success on the country charts having written a truly beautiful song, “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” (see his version below) that was covered by the Eli Young Band. But make no mistake, Will is a rock-n-roll guy, for sure.
Join him this weekend at 3rd and Lindsley in celebrating his miraculous recovery from a truly horrendous accident and help to raise funds for VUMC, who kept the man (and the music!) alive. It’s a 2 night stand. Friday 23 (the benefit) and Saturday 24 (just your regular rock show) — both nights, doors at 6, Show at 8, Tix are $20 and available here for Friday (with brother, Josh Hoge) and here for Saturday (billed as “with Special Guests”).
