I’m indescribably excited about this one! Announced this morning, English icon Morrissey will be performing in Nashville at the Ryman Auditorium on January 29th as part of his 2013 North American tour. This marks the first time the former Smiths frontman has made a stop in town since his 2004 performance, also at the Ryman. Many of the dates were rescheduled from late 2012 to allow the singer to spend time in England with his ailing mother. Rescheduled dates include the comfortably Nashville drivable (if you’re as big a Moz fan as I am) 1/28 in Asheville and 1/31 in Atlanta, and tickets for postponed December dates will be honored. It’s unclear at this time whether any additional tickets will be released for Asheville or Atlanta, but the links are here and here.
More information about Morrissey’s show at the Ryman is available here. Tickets go onsale THIS FRIDAY, November 16, at 10AM and range from $35.50-$69.50. A presale will be taking place Thursday at 10AM. More information about the presale will hopefully be coming soon in the form of a Ryman newsletter, which you can sign up for on their site.
Frequent Morrissey opening artist Kristeen Young will be supporting all dates. Also of note, legendary singer-songwriter Patti Smith will be providing additional support 3/1 in Los Angeles.
Over the past several years, Morrissey has on several occasions threatened to retire. He doesn’t strike me as the type of artist to make empty threats, so this could quite possibly be his last ever performance in Nashville. Catch him while you can!
