Well, if you are going to spend the entire day streaming new records that we have recommended to you, then we’ll just keep this train rolling. Grizzly Bear are releasing their first record since 2009’s Veckatimest. Edward Droste (vocals, guitar, omnichord, keyboard), Daniel Rossen (vocals, guitar, banjo, keyboards), Chris Taylor (bass, backing vocals, various instruments, producer) and Christopher Bear (drums, backing vocals, glockenspiel) have finally reformed, after extensive solo projects, to release their newest record, Shields, on Warp Records.
NPR is streaming that puppy in full, and it is a fine, fine piece of work. If you are familiar with Grizzly Bear’s psychedelic and experimental pop, then this record will likely feel like your favorite blanket on cold day. If you aren’t familiar, give it a few listens, and I think you will come to know why Grizzly Bear are collectively one of the best bands that are around right now.
I’m personally beside myself excited for their show at The Ryman on September 18th, which also happens to coincide with the date of their record release. The album artwork is below.
Sidenote: Grizzly Bear are playing Fallon on Friday Night!
