It’s been a long time coming for this post, and I’m super stoked for this show. Apparently, one of Those Darlins shares my excitement. You should share the excitement with us, and snag up a ticket or two. Show starts at 9pm. Get out and see some live music.
Dirty Projectors are out touring in support of their newest release Swing Low Magellan, and have, from what I’ve been hearing from peeps around the country, been killing it with their live shows. Swing Low Magellan is an interesting new spin for the Dirty Projectors. Unlike their colorful and playful 2009 record Bitte Orca, their newest effort is far more introspective and challenging (in a good way). It is certainly not too surprising based on interviews that I have heard from the heady heads Dave Longstreth & Amber Coffman. You can see what I mean in the first single off of Swing Low Magellan “Gun Has No Trigger” below.

Just as interesting is the opening act of Pop Etc. The last time I saw them, they were known as The Morning Benders. Supposedly, they found out that in Europe that the word bender is a derogatory moniker for homosexuals, and they didn’t want to be associated with that kind of Chick-Fil-A nonsense. So, now we have Pop Etc. This band got it’s start in the San Francisco area, and were basically a small time band in the Bay Area until the release of their 2010 release Big Echo which garnered an amazing amount of acclaim. So much acclaim that it landed them in tours with Broken Bells , Grizzly Bear, The Kooks, Death Cab for Cutie, Ra Ra Riot, Yo La Tengo, MGMT, Grand Archives, Yeasayer, Two Gallants, The Rosebuds, Au Revoir Simone, We Are Scientists, White Rabbits and The Black Keys. That is pretty much the rundown of indie rock bands right now. I have a few tracks from their debut release under the new name below.
