All week, we’ve been following Late Night’s Jimmy Fallon, who is hosting a series of artists this week to perform covers of Pink Floyd songs. (This is the last time you have to ever read this paragraph.) I guess he thinks anyone that is up watching his show is likely stoned, and he wants to see if he can get a nation of stoned spirit-fingers going on the Cheetos covered couches of America (or more likely he is promoting this week’s release of the remastered Pink Floyd box set) Regardless, it’s a chance to see some pretty big names do Pink Floyd covers. (I am tired of reading that same intro over and over again!)
Unfortunately, I can’t figure out how to embed the videos anymore, so I am back to stealing from others.
The Shins kicked it off Monday with “Breathe”, and Tuesday brought the Foo Fighters along with Roger Waters himself (which is kinda cheating in this little karaoke contest) to perform “In The Flesh”. Wednesday night was MGMT’s version of “Lucifer Sam” with a cameo by Bradford Cox (of Deerhunter/Atlas Sound fame), and Thursday was Nashville country crooner Dierks Bentley performing “Wish You Were Here”.
On last night’s finale of Pink Floyd week, Pearl Jam covered “Mother”. It’s always been one of my favorite songs from The Wall, and I honestly couldn’t think of a better person than Eddie Vedder to finish off this week. It was the climax and denouement of a really fun week. Bravo, fellas!
I wanna give a shout out to the Late Night Crew. They did a great job. It was a really fun, thanks!
