It’s a gray, rainy day here in Nashville, and I celebrated the college football kickoff a little too much yesterday. So, it’s a perfect day to mellow out to some Tyler Ramsey.
You probably already know Tyler as the guitarist for Band of Horses, but you may not have heard his solo work. If you are a fan of Band Of Horses, then you will almost certainly hear Tyler’s influence to the band in his solo effort. His sound has been compared to Neil Young, Elliot Smith, and Ryan Adams though he maintains a distinctly unique impassioned vocal style and beautiful finger picking guitar sound. Stereogum gave us a heads up in 2007 calling Tyler Ramsey a “Band To Watch”. He also recorded a Daytrotter session back in 2008 that you can download for free.
Tyler is currently touring with Band of Horses (who had to completely rework their fall tour after one King of Leon had to deal with some shit in his life), but he has still managed to find some time to release some new tracks. The fine folks over at My Old Kentucky Blog released the new track to promote his third LP The Valley Wind which releases on September 27th via Fat Possum Records. I’ve also included some tracks from his 2008 LP A Long Dream About Swimming Across The Sea which came out on Echo Mountain Records.
Hopefully, Tyler will be making a swing through Nashville to promote this album later this year. I’ll keep my ears open and let you know what I find out.
