Prog-math-rock bad asses, Minus The Bear, are not really newcomers to the scene.  They released their first EP in 2001 and their first LP in 2002.  They have since released 3 more LPs and 6 more EPs for a number of record labels.  However, their newest LP, Omni, released in 2010 (via Dangerbird Records) may be their most ambitious yet, when they signed on producer Joe Chiccarelli (My Morning Jacket, The White Stripes, & The Shins).  They are in the midst of a national tour, and will be swinging through Nashville’s Cannery Ballroom on June 1st (get tickets here).  As with most math rockers, the live show is really where you get to see all the awesomeness that is happening to make this music.  Click HERE to read more about Minus The Bear.  The openers are The Constellations (an Atlanta-based, genre-spanning music collective that is reminiscent of a rock based Outkast) and Skysaw.

To get you in the mood, Minus The Bear is offering a free download of the newest EP, Hold Me Down, in exchange for your email address.  If you haven’t figured it out yet, you can get a lot of free music with an email address.  So, you might as well set up a second gmail account, and find some new tunes to listen to.
