PUJOL Releases “June Bug” Ahead of Record Store Day

PUJOL is releasing a special, strange 5″ record for Record Store Day on Saturday, featuring the band’s new song “June Bug” on one side plus the song “Bones” from Meth Dad on the other. PUJOL’s mastermind and local punk hero Daniel Pujol created the 5″ on his own imprint label due to all the vinyl pressing plants being backed up. For all you record collectors out there, this is a pretty cool chance to get a really unique 5″. For everyone else, we already know from their sophomore album KLUDGE that PUJOL’s weird recording projects are great. The tracks were recorded at the house venue Queen Ave., and the bands are going to recreate the recordings with a show there on Record Store Day that also features BZRK and Jawws.

We heard PUJOL play “June Bug” live back in the fall, and though he’s ditched the sampled sounds of actual beetles buzzing, the song still has their signature playful energy. It’s very ’70s NYC punk. You can check out the song and the handbill for the gig, which comes with the record and was inspired by Nashville’s punk show fliers from the 1980s, after the jump. The record will be available on Record Store Day and for digital download for just two weeks.

Meth Dad Debuts New Song, “So Real;” Catch Him March 12 @ The Stone Fox

Nashville’s reigning king of party music and good vibes, Tyler Walker, who performs as Meth Dad, has long been one of the most fun examples of the broad range of artists Music City has to offer, and, without a doubt, one of our favorite local live acts. Though it’s been a minute since Meth Dad last put out a record, he’s been dropping some gems here and there, and this week unleashed a fantastic new tune called “So Real” upon us. Channeling his typically synthy, borderline psychedelic sound, the tune adopts a more downtempo and hypnotic quality, and we can’t stop listening to it. Give “So Real” a spin below, and be sure to catch Meth Dad live when he brings his (seriously crazy fun) live show to The Stone Fox on March 12, along with Michael Parallax, Young Breh, and Future Dogs, all for just $5!

Catch Peelander-Z w/ Meth Dad & Mystery Twins | TONIGHT @ The High Watt

Japanese born, New York based “action comic punks” Peelander-Z seem to make it to Nashville several times a year these days, and that’s more than alright with us! Out in support of their latest fill-length, Metalander-Z (yep, it’s more metal-influenced than their typical punk leanings), the band-meets-performance-art group will bring their out of this world stage show to The High Watt, supported by fantastic locals Meth Dad and Mystery Twins. If you’ve never seen a Peelander-Z show, then this thing should be mandatory, and if you’re one of the indoctrinated then you already know: there’s nothing else quote like it. Keeping reading for more!
