Catch Gov’t Mule Today @ Grimey’s For a Free In-Store

Govt Mule

Gov’t Mule added a last-minute intimate in-store performance 6 p.m. today at Grimey’s to give their fans a little something extra before their Ryman show with John Scofield tomorrow. Warren Haynes and crew have been out on the road supporting a string of live releases in honor of their 20th anniversary over the last year. They will be performing a few songs and will then sign copies of Dark Side of the Mule and Sco-Mule. There are also still some tickets available to their Ryman show here. Don’t miss this one, folks.

Even though our name suggests otherwise, we here at No Country occasionally make exceptions. Being in this town, it’s easy to become jaded towards certain subgenres of country music, and all the commercialism and stereotypes associated with it. Luckily, we have Sturgill Simpson along with his kickass band to revive outlaw country with a hint of psychedelia and jam. This past weekend, Sturgill and the boys made a two night stand at 3rd and Lindsley with Anderson East, and packed the house for both of those shows. We were able to catch the Sunday evening edition, which was also broadcast over the airwaves on Lightning 100’s “Nashville Sunday Night”.

Keep reading to check out a full review of the show and photos from Sundel Perry capturing the evening’s performance.

We never thought we’d have the opportunity to see Scott Weiland perform in an intimate club like Mercy Lounge, but providence shined upon us, and he brought his new band Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts to Nashville. He also had two outstanding opening bands in tow, The Last Internationale and Stocklyn, who brought the rock in the best way. We knew earplugs would have been the smart move, but we just couldn’t resist the temptation to feel every note fully. It was worth it.

Check out below for our full review, some photos from the night, and a brief interview.

Muddy Roots Music Festival Announces 2015 Lineup

Ralph Stanley Muddy Roots Spring Weekender

This week Muddy Roots Music Festival announced their 2015 lineup, which includes headliners Dr. Ralph Stanley, Bobby Bare, and Ray Wylie Hubbard, among others. It’s not just the unique combination of traditional country, alt-country, blues, punk, rockabilly, rock, vintage cars, and pinups that brings festival goers back year after year. It’s also cooling off in your own inflatable pool filled with water daily by a local fire truck, the excitement of camping among the festival performers, and getting your photo taken for the Muddy Roots yearbook.

Do yourselves a favor, and get on the Muddy Roots train soon. Tickets for the September 4-7 festival are available now. Hopefully you remember from our 2014 review and photos the thrilling experience we had last summer at the Junebug Boogie Ranch in Cookeville, TN, so you don’t need to be convinced why you have to attend. But in case you want to be convinced, check out the videos from our personal favorites after the jump.
