Cincinnati rockers Foxy Shazam have pulled a Beyonce and unveiled a surprise new album, Gonzo, which is available now to stream (check it out below) or download– and, get this, it’s totally FREE! Something of a deconstructionist reaction to the group’s more recent efforts, which have been increasingly more layered, polished, and stylized, Gonzo is comparatively minimalist and brings the band back to the basics. Foxy’s first independent release in nearly a decade, Gonzo was self-produced, with engineering assistance from the legendary Steve Albini, and recorded all-at-once in running order in a live room setting in Chicago. The sextet will take Gonzo out on the road this spring, and, guess what? They’re gracing the stage of Nashville’s own Exit/In on June 5. Larry and His Flask will support, and tickets go on sale this Friday, April 4, at 10 a.m. for $15.
