Hailing from Southern Alabama, alternative rapper and singer Jake Hill, who also goes by iAmJakeHill, got his start in music in 2016, initially prompted by a Reddit challenge. Soon, Hill, who performs under a variety of other aliases and regularly collaborates with Florida rapper and producer Josh A, began releasing original songs of his own, dropping a prolific run of singles and projects over just a few years, fusing elements and imagery of alt rock and metal with his dark, confessional, and atmospheric flavor of hip hop. Channeling a fiercely independent ethos, Hill commands a passionate online fanbase, thanks to his popularity on YouTube and huge number of monthly listeners, and his live show has been praised for its unpredictable punk spirit.
Though he’s released a well-received album, so much for closure, since his last Nashville appearance in late 2022, Hill has also gained a lot of online recognition for two unlikely side projects over the past couple of years as well: his pop punk alias ur pretty and country alter ego Dixon Dallas, both through which he’s released graphic, subversive songs about gay sex which have gone viral on TikTok, motivated by the conservative Southern environment he was raised in. For his latest Nashville appearance, July 31 at Eastside Bowl, you can mostly expect songs from the iAmJakeHill side of his catalogue, though it looks like he has been throwing some stuff from his side projects in as well, along with likeminded openers guccihighwaters and Ryan Oakes.
