Beloved songwriter and violin virtuoso Andrew Bird is never one to rest on his laurels. After a string of critically-acclaimed albums first brought Bird into the national spotlight in the mid ’00s, the talented artist has continued to hone his work through new releases, high-profile collaborations, film scores, and unique concert experiences. The latter is easily displayed in “Gezelligheid,” a largely instrumental violin focused show amplified by Bird’s signature giant Victrola horns. Of course, Andrew is sure to reprise some of his most beloved tracks as well, as you can see in the video after the jump.
Bird first began performing “Gezelligheid,” which loosely translates to “cozy” in Dutch, in his hometown of Chicago seven years ago, but he will be bringing the experience on the road this winter, performing it in Nashville for the first time on Dec. 8 & 9. The unique performance calls for a unique venue, and the sonic qualities of Nashville’s Downtown Presbyterian Church will provide the perfect backdrop to soak it all in. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. CDT here (Dec. 8) and here (Dec. 9), and don’t dilly dally, as we expect this rare experience to sell out quick.
