The local music scene is winding down from the excesses of Christmas and preparing for the excesses of New Years. That doesn’t mean that you can’t get your fix this weekend though. We’ve poured through the local listing to disseminate another rundown of TWiN.
FRIDAY
HOUR HANDS W/ KNEEL BEFORE NONE, SAINT BEAST, AND ANIMALITY
@ The End | 9pm | $5 | 18+
Newcomers in the metal scene, Hour Hands, have their debut show tonight at The End, and, for those in the scene, it is something to take note of. Support includes metalish rockers locals Kneel Before None, Saint Beast, and Animality. Per usual, The End brings you some RAWWWK! [MH]
WEEKEND JIMMY AND THE EASY PARTY W/ LAZERSNAKE AND CASHATT
@ Exit In | 8pm | $5 | 18+
You’ve spent the holiday season singing the songs of others, and, while Christmas is winding down, you can still get out to work those pipes out with some standard rock songs that you know and love with Weekend Jimmy And The Easy Party. Local spoof rockers Lazersnake and hip-hop by Cashatt will likely make this the most fun and diverse bill of your Friday night. [MH]
SATURDAY
GRIMEY’S ANNUAL BIRTHDAY HANG PRESENTING: JONES BROTHERS AND HUGH MUNDY COMEDY EXPLOSION
@ The Basement | 8pm | Free | 21+
In what is sure to be a blast of a time, The Basement celebrates Grimey himself with his 10th annual 40th birthday celebration. This will feature music, comedy, spirits, and laughter exactly as the holidays call for. Things get started around 8pm, and, yep, this thing is FREE! You never know… something like this might happen again. Happy 50th Grimey! [MH]
ROYAL COURT OF CHINA W/ SLICK
@ Exit/In | 8pm | $10 | 18+
Power rockers Royal Court Of China were mainstays of the Nashville rock scene in the 80’s when some of you would say Nashville didn’t have a rock scene… but more of you reading this probably weren’t out of diapers yet. They surprised us with a reunion over the summer at FooBAR, and they’ve decided to do it again. Get your glam rock ready with another dose of RCC tonight. Local rockers Slick opens. [MH]
DEEP FRIED 5 WITH FUNKONAUTS
@ The High Watt| 9pm | $5 | 18+
Deep Fried 5 will deliver a righteously funky evening at The High Watt with their fat, nasty beats and fro pickin dance grooves that will make you wanna slap yo mama (don’t you dare follow through on that!). The Nashville 5-some will be playing tunes from their debut album “Saturday Night Funk / Sunday Morning Soul” while filming and recording the show, so show up with your best Soul Train dance moves and lose yourself to boogie. “Free your mind and your ass will follow.” Bring an extra pair of threads in case the hilariously inappropriate Funkonauts make you pee your pants while you’re poppin it. P.S. FREE admission for 21+ [LT]
SUNDAY
PAUL THORN (ACOUSTIC SHOW)
@ 3rd & Linsdley | 8pm (doors at 6pm) | $40 | All Ages
Critically acclaimed singer / songwriter / artist Paul Thorn is a blue collar, good ol’ boy from Tupelo, MS who has spent a great portion of his life building furniture as the son of a Pentecostal preacher. His latest album of redefined deep cuts (“What The Hell Is Going On?”) features lyrics that can slay one moment and present you with your new favorite pick up line the next (“You’re like a hot biscuit I wanna eat”). He’s talented and endearing as all hell, the kind of man who you want to invite over to get moonshine drunk with and get lost in his southern slanged stories. Luckily, we all have the opportunity to get cozy with the man known as the “Mark Twain of Americana” for an acoustic performance in the intimate confines of 3rd & Lindsley or over the airwaves of Lightning 100.
