Bonnaroo-2013

Is it just us, or does the song from the Rugrats‘ “Reptar on Ice” musical immediately get stuck in your head when you hear the band name Reptar? Just us? Cool. Reptar (the band, not the cartoon dinosaur)  hails from the indie rock oasis of Athens, GA (also home to previous Bonnaroo Band of the Day Futurebirds). The band’s debut, 2012′s Body Faucet, proceeded by a much-hyped appearance at SXSW, gained the Reptar a ton of buzz throughout last year, and cemented their status as the indie pop group to watch. With the buzzy guitar juxtaposed with pulsing rhythmic sensibility of Vampire Weekend, the melodic ear of Bahamas, and the occasional psychedelic tinge of Dr. Dog, Reptar are at once deliciously poppy and densely and melodically layered and smart.

Celebrate The City: Rubblebucket, Cherub, Reptar, and On and On at War Memorial Auditorium Tonight.

You always wonder how the band you have grown to love is going to sound live. Every show has a different vibe, sound quality, and crowd. All these can be factors that determine how good the show is.

Well I have grown to love Rubblebucket recently. And I watched their live performance of “Came Out of a Lady” on Jimmy Kimmel Live and everything clicked: the band’s energy, the live sound, the vibe, and the crowd was clearly into it. All the key ingredients impressed. Watch the video below.

Hopefully, Rubblebucket will rock it like they did during that performance. Also playing are

  • Cherub. Listen to “What I Want” below
  • Reptar. Listen to “Sebastian” below.
  • On and On. Listen to “Ghosts” below.

Biologically, it’s true. You came out of lady. So, come celebrate the city and your birth tonight.

Soundland filling out its schedule…

Soundland (formerly known as, Next Big Nashville) is continuing to fill out the line up for the September 21-24 festival in Nashville.  We first brought the news of the initial Soundland lineup to you a few weeks ago.  Well, the lineup continues to grow with the addition of Foster The People, Yelawolf, Big K.R.I.T., Cults, The Low Anthem, Cheer Up Charley Daniels, The Apache Relay, Pujol, Carl Broemel, Ben Sollee, and many more.

We’ll be talking about each of these bands in the weeks leading up to the festival to get you acquainted and to help you make your decisions.  So stay tuned.  But, for now, you should buy your $55 all-music wristband which will get you into all of these shows.  If you plan on going to more than two, then it is a deal.

There’s a 35 song playlist below with a track from most of the artists in the lineup so far.  (Chancellor Warhol, Uncle Skeleton, My So Called Band, The Cadillac Black, Erick Baker, and By Lightning! aren’t in Grooveshark).  Also, beware that not all of these tracks (especially the hip-hop) are exactly safe for work.  Anyway, Enjoy.
