Get Into the Holiday Spirit with Nick Lowe’s Quality Holiday Revue w/ Los Straightjackets and The Cactus Blossoms Saturday!

Nick Lowe is once again taking his Quality Holiday Revue on the road and this time with the superb Los Straightjackets as the backup band! While this may seem like an odd combination, it fits right in for long-time fans of Nick Lowe who always does things in his own style. The Quality Holiday Revue Live album with Los Straightjackets was recently released, and this promises to be a wonderful show that will get the Holiday spirit flowing! Opening the evening is The Cactus Blossoms, a duo of brothers with guitars and tight harmonies. You can catch all of this on Saturday Dec. 5 at City Winery.  The show starts at 8pm, and tickets are still available from $45-$55.  Read on to learn more about the acts.

Today’s stars cover Buddy Holly

In memoriam to Buddy Holly (1936-1959), who would have turned 75 this year, an awesome collection of contemporary stars are releasing covers for a tribute album to the Rock-n-Roll pioneer.  Buddy Holly became an American Rock n’ Roll icon in only a year and a half before the 22 year old musician was killed in a plane crash with Ritchie Valens and JP “Big Bopper” Richardson in February 1959.

Several of the tracks have been leaked on the internet, and can be heard at the links below.

Dearest – The Black Keys
Rave On – Julian Casablancas

KCRW’s Liza Richardson played Modest Mouse’s take on “That’ll Be the Day” on her May 7th show.  You might have to hunt around for that one, but numerous sources report that it is about six minutes in on the show archive.
