In memoriam to Buddy Holly (1936-1959), who would have turned 75 this year, an awesome collection of contemporary stars are releasing covers for a tribute album to the Rock-n-Roll pioneer. Buddy Holly became an American Rock n’ Roll icon in only a year and a half before the 22 year old musician was killed in a plane crash with Ritchie Valens and JP “Big Bopper” Richardson in February 1959.

KCRW’s Liza Richardson played Modest Mouse’s take on “That’ll Be the Day” on her May 7th show. You might have to hunt around for that one, but numerous sources report that it is about six minutes in on the show archive.
