REVIEW: Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights with Nikki Lane @ 3rd & Lindsley | 5.19.13 [PHOTOS]

JTNL1

Band of smokin’ hot soul rockers Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights brought their ‘A’ game and a shared stash of hot new tunes with a packed house at 3rd & Lindsley last Sunday, May 19th. Due to traffic backup from never-ending weekend construction on I-40, I wasn’t able to make it back to Nashville in time to catch Nikki Lane’s opening set. I was majorly bummed, but I’m excited to report that she just released a brand new 4-track Daytrotter session, which is now available for streaming online. Also, on the following Monday, May 20th, she filmed a segment to-be-aired on CMT at fav East Nashville hangout Barista Parlor. We’ll certainly keep you updated as we find out more details about the air date, as we can’t wait to hear more from Ms. Lane.

Jonathan Tyler & his crew hail from Dallas, TX, and have most recently played Nashville supporting other great rock acts includingTyler Bryant & the Shakedown and Grace Potter & the NocturnalsHeavily influenced by The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones, JTNL breathes new life into classic rock n’ roll with confident swagger and bright energy. There’s something spiritual about being part of a JTNL show — something that stays with you long after the smell of smoke has left your clothes and the lyrics have left your memory (they won’t, by the way). I was thrilled that the band ended the show with their cover of “Bring it On Home” by gods of rock Led ZeppelinCheck out the video below of a 2011 performance with their previous bassist, Nick Jay, who (I’ll admit) was much missed at the 3rd & Lindsley show. This Weekend In Nashville – October 12-14

Man, what a week.  First off a huge thanks to those of you that voted for us in the Best Of Nashville Readers Poll!  We’re totally humbled by the honor, and thank you all for your support of us and the Nasvhille music scene!

Now, let’s give you some ideas of music to get out and see this weekend.

Well, I guess the biggest name that you will hear is Grace Potter & The Nocturnals‘ two night stand over at The Ryman on Friday and Saturday.  She’s obviously pretty loved to pull a two night Ryman stand, but it isn’t necessarily my cup of tea.  You can check out some of her best aspects below.  If you like that, or her music, you can snag those tickets here.

Alright, let’s take a look at what else is going on Fridaynight.

Alanna Royale w/ The Brand New Life & Zig Zag Mojo are playing at The Basement.  Alanna Royale is a name that I suspect you are going to be hearing more and more of around Nashville in the near future.  I mean, if Brittany Howard can do it with the Alabama Shakes, what’s to say that Alanna can’t pull the same magic off.  You can check out some crowd footaget of her performing “Animal” at The Basement below.  Things get started at 9pm, and ticket’s will run ya $7.

ASCAP and Native Magazine are throwing a party called Docktoberfest over at Jackalope Brewery.  The musical highlights will include Daniel Ellsworth & the Great Lakes, Wild Cub, Ravello, and Allen Thompson.  I’m kind of wondering how you can go wrong with this venue and lineup.  Things get started at 7pm, and this sucker is FREE!!!!  You can get more information over at the event’s Facebook page.

Saturday

Your free comfortable weather musical experience will be with Musician’s Corner in Centennial Park with Sixpence None The Richer, Yarn, Andrew Combs, Rosco Bandana.  Acoustic sets from Evan McHugh, Stephanie Day, and Jameson Elder will also be on tap.  Things get started around 3pm, and like we said before… keep your money in your wallet, cause this sucker is free!  For more info, click here.

For your late night enjoyment, there is a pretty sweet lineup at the Labyrinth House Party featuring Creature Comforts, Girls & Money, and Scale Model.  This is bound to be a freaking riot, and is not to be missed.  You can check out the Facebook event page here.  They have links back there to check out each of the bands too.

Sunday

Just when you thought your weekend was over, you have the opportunity to head down to Dino’s to check out the Split EP Release Party w/ Penicillin Baby, Megajoos, & Tennessee Scum.  We’ve talked about Penicillin Baby already, and, if you haven’t checked out that post, you should do that right now.  You can also check out the Megajoos/Penicillin Baby split EP below.

It’s your weekend, get out and see some live music!

Stereogum’s Bonnaroo Artist’s Polaroid Project

Stereogum did a pretty cool project at Bonnaroo this year.  They handed out Polaroids to some of the artists at this year’s festival, and then scanned the pictures that they took.  You can check them out at the Stereogum website.  Pretty sweet glimpse backstage with some of the biggest stars of this year’s festival.  Links to the participating artist’s pics are included below:
