Longtime friends and no strangers to musical collaboration, Amy Lynn Wright (Brineaboy) and Kevin Tetuan (Talking With Hands/Birthmarque) previously played together in local project Yumi And The System, and, earlier this year, re-teamed to unveil their latest artistic endeavor: Panda Park. Also featuring some writing contribution from their Yumi bandmate Ben Wright, Panda Park made a strong introduction with their six-song Bad Bones EP back in the sumer, showcasing an ambient, poppy flavor of alt/indie rock that should both sound familiar to fans of the duo’s other projects, and distinct in its own right. Self-recorded and produced, and featuring mixing and mastering by Kevin Kilpatrick (and with artwork by Chelsea Velaga), the band’s initial six sultry, lo-fi tunes are merely half of the first batch songs they intend on releasing online, the rest set to arrive in January to complete the Bad Bones set.
Before the holidays and ahead of the new year, we’re incredibly excited to share two singles from Panda Park’s second batch of songs: “Panda Park” and “He Knows New York,” the former a dreamy, pop rock tune and the latter a propulsive, hypnotic slice of alt rock, both anchored by Wright’s personal and compelling lyrical prowess. A natural extension of the group’s previously released tracks (they were, apparently, recorded all together after all), both tunes together provide a great glimpse of Panda Park’s range, and leave us eagerly anticipating the rest of their record.
“Our goal is not necessarily to play out,” Wright explains, “Our goal is to release our music chemistry via online and stay behind a non-person visual recognition.” Adding that the group “Just wanted to keep the holiday season sexy and plow through songs that have meant a lot to us for various reasons. We are somewhat like chosen siblings who cowrite songs. There will always be grunge in our blood and a damn good feel in the studio as we continue to write.”
Hear “Panda Park” and “He Knows New York” below, and keep an eye out for more from Panda Park in the New Year!
