[TICKET GIVEAWAY] Mt. Joy w/ Trevor Sensor | July 20 @ The Basement

Two exciting, rising acts, LA folky, indie group Mt. Joy, who just made their Bonnaroo debut last month, and Illinois indie rocker Trevor Sensor, whose recent debut LP should be a staple on your summer playlist, are set to play The Basement on July 20, and given the buzz surrounding both acts, it might be the last chance to see them in such an intimate spot for awhile. Tickets are still available, and at just $10, this is a great way to sample two fantastic touring acts on the rise, but we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan or curious newcomer! Read on for more on why you don’t want to miss this show and enter below.

While they only formally came together as Mt. Joy last year, bandleaders Sam Cooper and Matt Quinn’s musical collaborations can be traced back more than decade, when the pair met in high school, in their native Philadelphia, and made music together until college took them down separate paths, continuing to collaborate, but unsure that music would ever become a serious career path. After they both wound up in Los Angeles several years later for work, they began collaborating more seriously once more, recording some songs in early 2016 and choosing the moniker Mt. Joy, after a real mountain near where they grew up, before being split once more by circumstance, as Cooper returned to Philly for a job, and Quinn enrolled in law school in LA.

The unexpected success of their first single, “Astrovan,” forced the duo to reconsider, and they put career and school projects on hold to make Mt. Joy their full-time focus, recruiting Michael Byrnes, Sotiris Eliopoulos, and Andrew Butler to complete their lineup. Since then, the group have dropped two more well-recieved tracks, “Sheep” and “Cardinal,” honing their folky, indie, and timeless sound a la Bob Dylan or Alabama Shakes, while working on their debut album. Still a relatively new act, the band’s appearance at The Basement will be their first Nashville date ever, and comes on the heels of a supporting run with The Head and the Heart and an appearance last month at Bonnaroo. Check our their debut music video below!

Celebrating the recent release of his debut LP, Andy Warhol’s Dream, Illinois’ Trevor Sensor packs a husky, weighty voice and a sound that channels elements of indie and garage rock, though not without some punk bite, folk sensibilities, and the earnest, storytelling style of classic singer-writers. Recorded at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio in Chicago, and featuring a rhythm section of fellow Illinois indie act Whitney, Sensor’s debut is easily one of the most underrated releases of the year so far, made all the more impressive by the fact that he’s only in his early 20s. Though a bit more frenetic and biting than Mt. Joy, Trevor should no less be a cool compliment, and both acts are at the start of what is sure to be an exciting couple of years; catch them now so you can say you saw them back when.
