[TICEKT GIVEAWAY] Carl Broemel w/ Everest & Nicole Atkins | Jan. 27 @ The Basement East

Carl Broemel-620

It’s been nearly half a year since Carl Broemel celebrated the release of his third album, 4th of July, at The Basement East. In the months since, the buzz surround the My Morning Jacket member’s latest effort has only continued to grow, and we’re incredibly excited that he’ll return to the same spot once more for a performance on Jan. 27, this time with the return of buzzy rock group Everest and singer-songwriter Nicole Atkins. Definitely one of January’s must-see shows, tickets are available right here. But, like last time, we’re also offering one lucky fan a chance to win a pair of tickets! Read on for more about the lineup, and enter below!

CARL BROEMEL

Carl Broemel started his musical journey in Indianapolis, the son of a symphony musician, and quickly stood out for his own musical talent from a young age. He got his start playing in various local rock bands, before releasing his debut solo LP, Lose What’s Left, in 2004. Around that time, Broemel joined on with fast-rising Louisville group My Morning Jacket, and found himself lending guitar, pedal steel, and back up vocals to 2005’s Z, a role which has earned him tons of praise, and has continued through three more fantastic albums, countless tours, and huge festival spots. Broemel did break out with another solo record, All Birds Say, in 2010, showcasing his aptitude for loop-based guitar in an effect heavy release that was mesmerizing, but didn’t quite translate in a crossover to mainstream appeal. For his latest solo release, last year’s 4th of July, Broemel, now a father, found himself collaborating with the likes of fellow MMJ members Bo Koster and Tom Blankenship, along with Neko Case, Russ Pollard, Shelly Colvin, and others. The result is a melodic effort that highlights Broemel’s intricate guitar work, but, with the help of his friends (and surely his time with MMJ), it is a beautiful offering that really resonates, and lands the most effectively of any of his solo output to date. Carl’s last Basement East outing was quite a treat, and this one is sure to be just as much a high mark of 2017!

EVEREST

Split between Los Angeles and Nashville, folk-tinged alt rockers Everest haven’t played a show in three years, and in that time, guitarist and Nashvillian Aaron Lee Tasjan has cultivated quite a sizable solo following of his own. Helmed by prolific indie rocker Russell Pollard, the group formed a decade ago, and, across three records, a major label deal, television appearances, and tours with the likes of Neil Young, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, and Minus The Bear, they seemed primed for superstardom, before slowing down and entering something of a hiatus a couple years back. If you missed out when they were more active, or you’re simply wanting to revisit, this rare appearance (which, we hope, indicates new music might finally be on the way) is one not to miss.

NICOLE ATKINS

It’s been a decade since Nicole Atkins first burst onto the scene with her debut, Neptune City, and in that time, the talented and prolific songstress has toured with acts like Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Primal Scream, and The Avett Brothers, made rounds on late night television, amassed praise from fans and press alike, and released new and ever-evolving music at a regular clip, her fourth album, Goodnight Rhonda Lee, set to arrive this spring. Mixing timeless, classic soul and pop influences with modern alternative and folk rock, Atkins’ sound is hard to define, but her knack for penning personal, engaging songs is top-notch, as is her live show.
